In Kenya there is no vehicle tax but there is a road insurance disc which must be displayed on the windscreen, a legal requirement. Like in the UK the police are tough on the non insured drivers. How is everyone?
I concur Phil. When we are young and fit we tend not to think of what might lie ahead so when life-long illness and/or old-age frailty hits be it directly or indirectly via someone close it can be difficult. There will come a time when we all will need help if we live long enough and as you will know there is help available but to get it might not always be easy. However once you have the system working with you it can bring some relief and I think the key is to have someone on your case with the right attributes for the job.

Regards your insurance quote that is a great price ... assume it is for 12 months? Quotes for my R25 1.4 vary wildly. I try to keep below £200 but to do so usually means I have to trawl the low-cost aka budget insurers. Not a problem until there is a problem and unfortunately on 2 occasions in my experience they have presented as the problem. After hooking me with a very competitive quote one tried to claim that it hadn't been able to obtain proof of no claims from my previous insurer and threatened to cancel the policy and hit me with a cancellation fee of something like £45 together with an extortionate claim for the cost of insuring me. Unfortunately for it my previous insurer was the AA who confirmed that any access to an account with them (such as to check claims history) was time and date stamped and there was zilch against my former account with them. In the absence of any evidence to support its ruse the chancers who had tried it on with me quickly changed tack and tried to screw me for an admin charge for something else - which I knew was a figment of someone's imagination. I wasn't having any of it and went through the rigmarole of its complaints procedure to get it to desist. It got off lightly as normally I would have raised the matter with the Ombudsman. I'm pretty sure of the merits of the case and that compensation would have been awarded to me but I had other priorities at the time. But it got no repeat business off me and it never will.

Your mum's GP will likely know about the swelling you mention but I would ensure that he does.

Good morning Steve

Thank you for your insight into the benefit system and power of attorney. You are right about understanding how it works and finding an advocate who can help. I agree with all of your conclusions.

My insurance is for 12 months from 9 February. The insurance company pays for the valuation which was carried out at our home address in Nairobi. I had a new security system fitted to the car which included anti-car hijacking as carjacking is still quite common. Basically you hand the car over to the villains who then drive it off and it conks out 3 or 4 miles along the road. Tracking was offered but for a 4k car, I thought it wasn’t worth it.

Have a great day.

Good morning all

Like Bob, I am having physio today from an orthopaedic sports physiotherapist. Physio is the key to recovery. All the best Bob, you will be okay.

How is everyone?

What a dark dank rainy day it's been, I've never switched the house lights off since I got up this morning.
Pork shoulder chops dinner for tea tonight.

Cool

Morning everyone.

A sunny start to the day this morning but it looks chilly out there.

Morning peeps,
A grey but dry start to the day here.
Off to the boat armed with the pressure washer so hoping it stays dry

Morning folks. Sanity resumes - momentarily! Phone call yesterday from local council. They want to loan mum a fall alarm as she shouldn't have been discharged without one. They are coming this morning to sort. Phone call this morning. The county council are coming tomorrow to fit an all singing all dancing, fall and fire alarm system, integrated to smoke alarms, heat sensors and some additional pir sensored lighting. You couldn't make it up. No help for ages, me running around like a headless chicken, now everyone wants to help!!! My brain hurts! Off for another lie down. Thanks for listening!

Help is available and good to see that you are getting some. More might well be waiting and networking with those within the system who you and your mum come into contact with could be a good way of getting it. The benefits assessment I mentioned previously will be a free service, those of us who have had little or no contact with the benefits system may well gain the most from it. Its purpose is to give to you and not to take.
