If we need one now, we just hire one.

Don't talk to me about planning permission! I got stitched up when I applied to build houses on my ex haulage yard. Permission refused. Sold the land on to someone who knew someone and ............. permission granted!
Hiring a boat isn't an option for us. We use our boat all the year round and I also use it as a second home when working in Norfolk .
Ros and I don't go on holidays as we have all the cats at home. We just have our weekends away so it suits our needs. Only an hour and a half from home. Far enough to get away from things but close enough that we can go on a whim.

The costs of boat ownership isn't cheap (but then what is these days!) We factor in a years boating, Morring fees, BA toll, Insurance, maintenance and fuel costs to be about three to four grand a year. That is not including the purchase cost of the boat itself.

That figure is probably on a par with what peeps spend on their holidays a year. It's not exactly cheap but works for us.....At the moment!

I think all Marinas have something in place to try and screw money out of you if you don't sell through them. I'd have to check our contract but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. At least our marina doesn't insist that any work on your boat is carried out through them. I know some do

We never had a contract, with either the original owner, or the large company. I used to pay cash to the original owner so I'm not even sure that it "went through the book" or not!

I'm glad that it works for you. I'm getting too old and lazy now! We just go to a hotel and reeelaaaax!

West coast of Corfu (the quiet side!). Two hours on the plane, twenty minute transfer and lunch with a glass of Mythos, overlooking the bay. What could be better?

That is leagalised robbery Jeff, when you factor in mooring fees, safety certificate as well, you need a mortgage just to have the pleasure of owning a boat, thats without the actual cost of boat and everyday running costs.

Thats why my boat had to go,it was too expensive to own, good job you Essex Boys are loaded.
