I now have a 24mp Sony A6000 mirrorless

Sony A6000 with Sigma 30mm DN F2.8 Art lens
by Paul Stickley, on Flickr

I have

Sony 16-50mm kit zoom

Sony 55-210mm zoom

Sigma 60mm F2-8 DN Art

Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN Art

Samyang 16mm F2.0 ED AS UMC CS

Nisin Di700a flash

Yongnuo YN560 flash

Extension tubes - for all my close up work. (approx £20 on ebay)

I really like the modern electronic viewfinders for the photography I do.

I can fit all this without the flashes in a smallish shoulder bag when I go for walks or the camera with one lens will fit in a jacket pocket.

The primes listed above are all really sharp and I rate them all. The zooms not so sharp but convenient and useful for video.

I have many lenses on my wish list but most realistic next lenses will be

Sony 70-200 F4 zoom - convenient and sharp (not so small though)

Samyang F2.0 135mm - fantastically sharp and F2 - I like using manual lenses on this camera as the magnification available in the viewfinder makes focusing so much easier.

So many choices of cameras today - full frame - aps-c - micro 4/3 - dslr - mirrorless- etc. etc

Thing is - they are all good and excel at different things in an ideal world I would like some of each
It's really interesting to see the journey we take in photography and the equipment we use for that journey.

It just shows that there is no 'one size fits all' solution for everything and what suits one person may not another.

Despite some of the earlier hostility in this thread I find it very interesting to see how we adapt our equipment to help our hobby progress

Indeed Jeff. I said above I would like some of each type- size-etc

Even among top of the range DSLR the ideal camera for landscape, fast sports, low light, portrait, weddings etc would most likely be a different make/model for each subject.

Good thing is they all do a good job in general but excel at different things.

Of course size/price/functionality/ergonomics etc are of less or greater concern to each person.

It is like choosing a car, ask ten people which car is best for their needs and you may well get 10 different answers but all the cars will do the basics well.

Talking about using different cameras for different jobs......

I've just got in from Camera Club where we had our guest speaker Sarah Kelman, a professional wildlife photographer, Easyjet airline pilot, diver, glider pilot, mother of two and across the Atlantic sailor.....Her photography and her talk on her experience sailing across the Atlantic with her family to Barbados, then working their way up the Eastern Seaboard of America was nothing short of inspirational

If you get a chance, check her out....I've just followed her on Flickr

Will get a pic but my kit consists of:

Nikon D90 DSLR camera

Nikon 18-200mm VRii lens

Tamron 70-300mm lens

Nikon 50mm 1.8D lens

Tokina 11-16mm lens

Manfrotto tripod

Cheap eBay remote shutter

ND1000 filter (Big stopper)

Nikon SB-800 flash

When funds allow, I will be buying some more flashes and lighting equipment i.e. Soft box, lightnstands, etc.

Also, looking to purchase a macro lens (Sigma 105mm).

I found this video today. I found it to very very interesting. The Photographer is Ira Block (shoots for national geographic) and he is using Sony gear but 99% of this video applies to any make of gear. In fact the video is really about light/composition/moment etc.

Some of his shots are fantastic

Well worth a look

Go in at 3 mins to miss the waffle about Sony
