![]() Preferred nightshift or backshift. Dayshift was ok during the summer but not autumn or winter, I was never into getting up before the sun. Used to have shifts that started 02:30 and 03:17, detested them. Didn't have fixed start times in the rail freight industry, not like one week 06:00, next week 14:00, next week 22:00, you'd start "around" the same time all week, +/- 2 hours either side of a datum time as long as you had a minimum 12 hours rest between finishing and starting again. The start time depended on what turn/train you were working, if a train arrived from the south at 4am somebody had to be there to step on and take it forward to the north, west or where ever.
