Morning all, The water blew the electrics overnight I've been on mop & bucket duty most of the night We finally got the plumbing company back first thing this morning, who returned the 80 quid call out as they couldn't fix it, We weren't supposed to get any work done til the insurance assessor had been which would have meant waiting another 24 hours with water pouring in That's just ridiculous.
Missus is upset they're ripping the kitchen units out & chasing the plaster off the walls as it's sodden The water has got into the cavity under the living room & that will need pumping out. I've been round to the neighbours to tell them about the water needs turning off for a while, The trouble is the stopc0ck on the lead inlet pipe is only 2" above the concrete floor & they're having trouble digging it out, The decking outside might have to be torn up yet to get at the lead pipework under the back garden, Deep joy.

Morning folks - 'tis a bit drier up here this morning - there's even an occasional glimpse of sun and blue sky, but still cold.
Hope Ian can get some progress on his burst pipe problem - sounds like none of the tradesmen, utility suppliers and insurers are being helpful - or even sensible.

Yes thank gawd the leak has been sorted & a new stopc0ck is fitted They didn't need to dig up the floor to fix it, It was the plaster they'd chiselled off the wall that I thought was the floor being dug up this morning. Posh gets now with metric fittings or what! The water is back on & all is good, I'll need to get some quotes in for work to replace the kitchen cabinets/kickboards, new cushion floor lino & re-plastering near to where the leak was. Need to get that water pumped out from the cavity beneath the living floor & I should imagine dehumidifiers, The inside of the windows are running rivers in condensation.

I strongly recommend getting your own quotations from someone you trust Ian, the insurance co. will most likely accept them as long as they’re sensible. If you let the insurers handle it they will just send out a loss adjuster who will insist half the work doesn’t need done, I chased the lot the insurance company sent to see me

Afternoon all.
Bright and sunny here and actually not too cold . Glad to hear that at least there's some progress Ian. Sounds like an absolute nightmare with a generous helping of incompetence and stupidity. All the best with getting it sorted. Quizzie’s been out this morning with a couple of friends and is now "sleeping it off" after an hour and a half of marauding. . Ah, the peace to get on with a few more bits and bobs. |

My turn for trauma now. Son texted this morning to say he had been ill. Fever and vomiting. Fine when he messaged but I had to check with nhs what to do. Currently waiting for a call to say if all 4 of us have to isolate for 2 weeks. If so that screws up all my work for another month as I have # urgent carpet and sofa jobs booked in that have to be done by end of the month. Not sure how I'm going to be able to do mums shopping if so as I'm the one who can do it.
