Yes, but in your posting 137 the photographs show the cam covers fitted. You cannot see the camshaft lobes! The camshaft cover needs to be removed so that you can align the cam lobes as Kaiser explained. I'm not sure that you've understood that. Also you have to test one cylinder at a time, rotating the engine by hand in between.

If the compressed air is rotating the engine, reduce the pressure. You only need enough to detect a leak.

Are you happy with English, or should I use Google Translate into French?

Simon.

James,

In your post number 92, in photograph no. 2 your label "tappet?" is showing a cam lobe.

OK. I am not quite with you, I must admit. Are you talking about the front and rear cylinders/pistons?
If so, if you blow compressed air into the front cylinders, and it comes out the inlet manifold, then the inlet valves are bent. Is that the cylinders on which the belt had moved? Then it makes sense.

But please, make sure you understand this and you have done the test correctly!!!! before you decide on your next steps.

Don't worry, we will get there in the end!!

Kaiser,

Looking at his photos in post 137 he is testing only the left hand bank (I doubt that he's attempted to remove the plugs on the r.h. bank). But I suspect that he is blowing compressed air into cylinders 1,3 & 5 without ensuring that the relevant valves are closed first.

What pressure of air did you use by the way?

Simon.

Possibly Mike, but as James is following Kaiser's advice I'm trying to help him with that first. Also, if his pistons have hit some valves, then turning the engine on the starter motor is going to increase the damage. But it may come to that!
