Morning men (and ladies too if any are looking in).
It never rains but it pours. My sister is still in hospital - until they can get her oxygen count a fair bit higher, she won't be coming home anytime soon.
On Saturday afternoon, my brother's wife went to walk into the garden, tripped over the door step - and ended up at Casualty. Result - right arm broken between her elbow and shoulder, and left wrist broken too.

Sorry not been on much over the weekend.

My Nan (93 years young) had a fall at the residential home at the weekend and has broken her hip.
She is in Colchester General Hospital but in a bad way.
They maybe operating on her today and my Mum is up there at the moment.
I'm just waiting on Mum to call to find out any further information.

This might sound strange but part of me thinks it maybe better if she just slips away as up until about two years ago my Nan was fit as a fiddle and fully with it.
She had started to get increasingly more forgetful since then and was diagnosed with dementia.

Her sister died from Alzheimer's about five years back and Nan said she never wanted to end up like that.

Ros and I spent the Christmas just gone together at my Aunt and Uncles along with Nan and it was noticeable how distant she was becoming and repeating what she had just said a few minutes beforehand.
On boxing day my Uncle awoke to find Nan on the floor having a medical episode and she was rushed into Hospital.

She recovered but the episode was caused by her vascular dementia and it was deemed she could no longer live at home and a place was found at a residential home.

Nan has never settled there and doesn't understand why she can't be at home. This has led to her becoming increasingly depressed and not having any interest in us visiting etc.

The life she has lived has up until now been great with her as an independent woman (Grandad died around 1990) globetrotting around the world and enjoying all she could.
To see that person slowly being taken away is so sad and not what she wanted her end days to be.

So....I'm writing this not really knowing whether I want my Nan to make it through this or not which seems so very strange but there you are.

I will let you guys know any further developments when I hear anything.

Hi Jeff.
That is not good news at all, I had the same situation with my mum a few years ago, they were brought up to be independent, and to have your freedom taken away is sad, I would be thinking exactly the same thing why don't they just let her slip away if it came to the crunch.

Look after yourself and think positive.

Afternoon all, Sorry to hear of your Nan Jeff and also sorry to hear about Rod's sister still poorly.

Boy is it muggy, it's 'orrible.

I've been mooching in the dark corner of the garage but It's dark nay moor as I've wired an LED light over that corner and found all sorts of stuff I'd forgotten about.

Ta dah! Rover roof bars with all the fittings I've fitted them on the car and they look quite good.

Salad weather again so I've made beef casserole with mashed spuds & fresh peas straight out of the pod.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. Woman next door has dementia, she's not that old really, early '70s? She is getting worse, it's impossible to have a normal conversation with her now. She gets picked up several days a week and goes to a local day centre. Feel sorry for her husband, he's very fit for his age and can turn his hand to anything. It was him that converted our old coal bunker into a greenhouse/cold frame, he replaced a section of harling that water had got behind on our garden wall and replaced a gate post that was rotten. He won't take anything for doing it, few cans of beer or an occasional bottle of whisky, I suspect he's happy to have something to occupy him rather than dwelling on happier times
