If a Hyena was close we wouldn’t go out. As you know, they usually hunt in packs and are quite noisy. I always carry a machete and keep another under the front seat of the 4x4. (Fairly standard in Kenya) We have a couple of shovels for ‘digging out’. There is also a handgun and catapults.

What’s interesting is how careful the Elephants are in not trampling our tent and how careful they are to cross over the tent guidelines and pegs without causing any damage. How uncanny is that. Maybe we have just been lucky......Otherwise they are dangerous, unpredictable and will damage the trees and cause havoc if they feel threatened or in a bad mood.

We left the family to carry on their safari without us. Today we are resting up and getting ready for another trip. Tomorrow we are taking the new train to the coast for 2 weeks holiday. I didn’t fancy the long drive of 9 hours, as it can be fraught with dangerous drivers and corrupt army/police road blocks along the way. A video of the new train....https://youtu.be/CE87_xA_sdA

How are you?
Great photo's and write up Phil, once again thank you for posting.

Morning, second in today, last night's wind and rain seems to have died down considerably. I had a bit of a lay in today as it's a Sunday and probably tomorrow as it's a Bank holiday.
Bacon butties later for brecky (with an eggon top)

Good morning all, the rain has finally stopped but it's a bit blowy out there.

Lie in this morning for me too, just had bacon egg on toast and put a diced pork casserole in the oven.
The big chief needs to go shopping today to replenish the stores.

I've lost track of the days!!!! it's Sunday & the milkmans been, He's never left milk on Sunday before!!

Quiet in 'ere. Bored. Christmas and New Year used to be the highlights of the TV year . . . . I'm watching the Likely Lads film from 1976!

Afternoon all, Dark skies & raining here, must be why the fireworks have started early.

Pork casserole is very good, There might be none left for anyone else soon.

Never owt decent on at New Year these days. Boring tv, boring musicians,if you can call them that. Best one I saw was 15/16; when Bryan Adams was on.

Well - that's nearly it - the end of another year. I'm not sure what kind of year it's been in all honesty. On the good side, we've managed to cure the leak in the garage, so no longer have to spend hours mopping out in heavy rain;we've spent a shed full of money on internal decoration and renovation to the house - but it does look a lot better for it; we had three weeks of hot sun for our holidays - mixed in with two further weeks of pretty heavy rain.
On the down side, one lifelong friend (and best man at my wedding) passed away after a very brief battle with cancer; a second lifelong friend is currently battling hard to recover from a bone marrow transplant (the only treatment for a rare version of cancer) - the three of us always said we'd do a "Last of The Summer Wine" jobbie, sitting on the hills overlooking Great Ayton, reminiscing about our youth; we lost a man who almost seemed like a member of the family - RIP Derek.
However, the missus and I are still enjoying our retirement, and are reasonably healthy and active. We've already booked a total of four weeks holiday in June in our caravan in (warmer) Southern parts - Cornwall and Shakespeare country. Our daughter gets married in May - not really looking forward to my speech bit, but apart from that - an event to look forward to.

I doubt I'll last 'til midnight, as I woke this morning with a cough, some sniffles and a sore throat. I'm trying to fight it off with chocolate and Capt. Morgan's Spiced Rum - which may well eventually knock me out

So to all my friends & acquaintances here - in fact ALL members of the OC (past & present) - I wish you a peaceful, fulfilling, but above all, a healthy 2018
