I don't miss it one bit Phil. For the first ten years or so I loved the job but the Human Rights Act, political correctness and the way crime was recorded totally spoilt it for me, they even took away 'Officer Discretion' away from us .

My father was in the police from the late '50's to early '70's. He started on the beat in Blyth and ended up on the traffic cars out of Berwick. He and a number of guys around the same seniority left because the job had become over officious, he said all the fun had gone out of the job. Whizz kid senior officers appearing straight out of university who had no idea about the job and how to deal with the men under them. My father had a run in with one, "I am your superior officer" to which my father replied "you may be senior but you are in no way superior!".
