Decided to remove the undertray, and fit it properly as it was sagging In the middle. It's much bigger than I imagined lol.

I cant believe how clean these covers keep the emgine bay until mine fell off and got ruined. I had to drive for a few months bare and cant believe the road poop that covered eveything! Now I'm stripping surface rust off from underneath lying in the driveway and painting with red oxide followed by some hammerite (i know its not what it used to be!). Hopefully it will help 'slouchy' survive a few more years!!

Changed a drivers side seat belt adjusting mech, the wire had snapped under the seat, fitted a set of sill trims as a previous owner had screwed them into the door rubbers!

Changed the n/s/r hub due to the noisy wheel bearing (only been noticeable for the last 300 miles), had to grind through the inner race of the inner bearing as It stayed firmly in position on the stub axle when I removed the hub.
A thorough clean up of the stub axle, wipe over with ACF-50 and assembly with a new hub and nut soon saw the car back on its wheels. Took it for a road test - total lack of the horrible drone from the rear end, so job well done. Picture of the picked up bearing race (notice the dried up remains of the old grease). |

A bit of a clean
Hi all.
Not strictly what I did today as this was over a couple of days in between Quizzie walking and SWMBO jobs but I finally got to cleaning up the half a can of white spray grease that had been liberally plastered over the door hinges and give the wheels a good dosing of fall out remover. The Hinges: After being attacked with Waxplanet's Uni Clean (https://waxplanet.co.uk/products/uni-clean-apc) they looked rather better.... Still a bit to do and a re-grease with a clear spray grease that goes on like oil but sets as grease. https://granvilleoil.com/prodInfo?pID=961 And the wheels: This is with Car Chem Iron DeTox (https://www.car-chem.com/shop/iron-detox-fallout) and, to be fair, the wheels weren't as bad as I thought they might be. Admittedly they're off my Wedgewood Blue tourer. I'll see what the original Comets look like soon - I hope . Take care. |
