Found the first and only thing I don't like about this unit today
With the audio source set to RADIO, the TOMTOM voice commands are given in the driver's side front speaker only, whilst the radio continues in all the other speakers. When USB source is selected, the TOMTOM voice commands mute the remaining speakers whilst giving instructions. Perverse and illogical, IMO but not a major cause for concern and certainly not spoiling my enjoyment of the unit as a whole. |

Good news
Steering wheel controls adaptor now on it's way from the USA thanks to Eammon's detective work. All I need to decide now is whether to use the frequency adjuster or not. |

Have you driven about in the car much with the HU fitted? Just wondering about the radio reception.

I slightly modified the fascia panel I had previously used for my Alpine setup and, because of its design, there was no trouble with securing the Eclipse in place.
The image has been slightly over exposed to show the detail under the brow panel. There is a lip around the Eclipse which butts up against the back of the fascia panel at the top where it fits closely and with a little cutting and shaping at the back, it fits perfectly. I know the Eclipse looks a little less than level but this was a Q and D installation just to make sure that it worked. The skew is purely down to the less than tidy cables behind the unit Clearly, the problem now would be for somebody skilled in the arcane arts of filling and spraying to work their magic and I think it would look pretty much spot on. The gap at the top cannot be seen when seated in the car with the brow panel fitted but is vital to allow access to the CD slot. This next picture is of the panel which Geraint kindly sent me to try. At first glance it look good but there are problems. The panel cannot accommodate the head unit and sit properly in the centre console. The top of the fascia panel doesn't lie flush and looks odd. It would take an awful lot of work to measure and manufacture brackets to hold it in place. It is simply a plate and has no fixings at all . The biggest concern though, is that when you tilt the front panel of the Eclipse, either for preference or to gain access to the CD slot, it flips the fascia panel out. If the panel was secured, it would then jam the Eclipse mechanism. So, nice as it initially looks, I am sticking with plan A for the moment. Therefore, are there any wizards of filler out there willing to accept a commission to complete my fascia panel please? It would be a simple job (I've been told) Beer tokens and undying admiration would, of course, be available Last edited by Raistlin; 25th October 2007 at 14:34.. |

My second Eclipse unit has arrived and here are a few pics of a dry fit with the BMW bezel:
I purchased a second unit because of a device from New Zealand - more info on all that as I fit it. I haven't mounted the HU properly yet or fixed it to the bezel but will report back here.
