Mixing Oil
Does it matter if I mix oil in my diesel engine? I've been give 6 one ltr bottles of various viscosity oils. Me thinks at oil change to save buying oil using the oil I have been given.

i wouldnt use it on your car ,i would stick to using the proper oil you have been using ... mixing the oils isnt a good idea,if the oil is too thick bad news ,if the oil is to thin bad news ... keep to the recommended spec for oil and it will keep your car happy....

I'd have to mostly agree with chrissyboy, best to stick to the recommended grade, wouldnt be concerned about mixing different brands so long as they were the same spec. But.... in the real world it'll probably do no harm! Pretty forgiving engines these....

For M47R engine only.

As long as the grades and spec meet the requirements you can mix all you like.
The diesel can take 0W40 to 10W40 realistically. 10W40 was Rovers incorrect recommendation, something they corrected at the facelift, BMW specified 0W40, 5W30 and 5W40 BMW LL-98 spec (which is A3/B3) for the M47 engine.
