You can fit it either way.
Standard it is fitted like on the picture. That is the way it is in the box.
See the first picture in the start of this threat
But you can easy turn it around. The manual show how to turn it. I guess both way's are correct.

How do I know ????
I fitted mine this evening. And I am pleased with it.
Although it was nerve wrecking to make 4 x 14 mm holes in my car. Especially with two left hands.

Rene.

Cool !

And very nice too......... Although strangely I prefer it the other way, sorry.

Tell me, is it possible to take a picture without a bicycle being in it in Holland?...lol.

But hey it shouldn't matter if luggage secured properly.

It always tickles me when I watch someone tie an 8 by 4 board on the roof, especially if it's plaster board. (usually in 4 pieces 100yds down road!!)
They give the single rope a "little tug" thinking that will suffice.

Nope!!!

Its about putting something on there and NOT having it slide OFF!!

Then you can turn round pick up your bungey cord/leather strap - "whatever" and strap your wicker basket down properly without having to try and hold it in place or putting your paint etc at risk!!

PLUS (as Jules said) the aero forces trying to rip whatever your carrying off!!

Plus it just "looks" right !! see the other pics !! its what we are used to seeing so it looks "correct" - "pattern reconition"

Raised lip at the back every time for me!!

As for doing it?? - well personal taste!!

I quite like it for summer trips out to a meet or simmilar!! and I belive you can remove it and fit blanks to the mountings? - a very good idea or the bars are going to suffer in the salt spray of winter!! - in fact I would have it in the garage unless I was going to use it (meets/shows etc)

JMO of course!!

It's mounted that way on convertibles to stop it going forward and decapitating the driver.

On a saloon I'd mount it the other way, as its never going to get through the rear window.

I cant agree!! 8 cars in those pics!! only 1 is a hard top and that can probably be removed to make it a soft top! - ALL the racks are the "right" way round!!

In all the pictures the rack is a lot more raked so theres the risk of it sliding off.
