Question ***brake pad warning light***

hi all
driving home last night, a yellow brake pad warning light came on (and stayed on) continuously. how much in advance does this warning kick in? i cannot get the pads done for about 3-4 days and i will drive about 300 miles (traffic and motorways) in this time.
will this be ok??

many thanks
tony.

Not sure, but I believe, that the indicator comes on at the time its suggested the pads are wearing down. It should be safe to drive for a while but I'd have them checked asap.

Minimum pad thickness is 2mm which is when I guess the light comes on. Light braking should be fine until you can get it checked out and/or pads renewed.

Obvious I know but .... never risk it with brakes - stopping tends to be important. I'd try and get the car in sooner.

Better safe than sorry !

Welcome alomng as a new member anyway, even though you joined in 06 you haven't posted much).

I joined originally as I had a starting problem and have stayed on line since. Some of the stuff on here is really quite useful.

How long you had your car?

You should be OK with that mileage, but with the Auto's you do use the brakes a lot more.
Obviously you don't want to score or damage the discs.
So get them done asap, and you may have to change the Wear Sensor too as they often fail on changing Pads.

I have merged your threads on same subject Tony to prevent duplication of answers.

As john said leaving it too long will destroy the sensor but otoh they normally snap on removal anyway if the sensor is damaged the brake warning light will probably remain on permanently

a replacement is only approx £8 so worth ensuring wherever it is booked in with have one available

If the warning light is on, the sensor that caused it will have to be replaced as the loop of wire in the tip will be worn away, and as has been said before, the other one will probably break when you try to remove it.

snip the wires and join them. no need for a new sensor then. i'm a professional cheap skate!

Edit by GG. This is not recommended and certainly not condoned by the club

All very well, but then you have disabled the sensor, better to spend the £15.00 per pair and be warned if your pads need replacing.

BTW welcome to the forum and the club.
