Rover 200 BRM
Hi all. A mate has got himself a Rover 200 BRM and is asking me if it possible to bypass the immobiliser and alarm so he can just use his key as in a metro or any older car. He is worried if he loses his only key and alarm fob he is stuck. He is the type of man still living in the 70's and can't be modernised. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dennis
the alarm/immobiliser can be bypassed using the key access code, this is a set no of turns to the left and right of the key, this code is supplied with the car when new.It is only intended for emergencys though, such as a flat battery in the fob. Same set up on my 200 coupe. Tell him to get a couple of spare keys/fobs.

As above the key access code will allow you to disarm the alarm - depending on model this may stay disarmed until the transmitter is pressed. Easier to get a spare remote and key. No chip in the key so about £5 inc cutting and the 5as system will let you code a second hand remote as there are no barcodes

One point of notice, he may invalidate his insurance by delibertly disabbling the immobliser incase it gets stole etc. Work him checking that out incase!
