As far as I know, a cash purchase from a private seller is "Sold As Seen" without any sort of come back.
Sorry, not the opinion you want I'm afraid...

That's unless you got the seller to do a receipt with some form of Warranty implied on it, but that might take a legal battle to follow up.

I would be surprised if it is a HGF on a V6...........Most likely is split thermostat, followed by a non working fan or even a expansion cap.

The v6 is a pretty robust engine.

as said by others the kv6 isn't known for HGF in the 75/zt format they redesigned it comprehensively following massive problems in the 825, pity they didn't follow that through to the 4 cylinder versions. Are you sure it's not a garage assuming HGF just because it's a MGRover? Come back wise no real come back on seller assuming they are a genuine private seller and not a part time trader

Hi Matt, what garage told you it was hgf? I know there are a couple of MG/Rover garages in royston but there is a guy near Ely who is a specialist in MG/Rover and is honest and also cheap, let me know if you need his number
Regards, Gary

or you sure it is hgf ,are the signs there for it .could just be overheating due to a few things . as for the private seller and getting money back it all depends on how the car was advertised .. if it is stated that it is a great car and clearly is isnt then it would be false advertiseing and you will be able to get money back or some money towards the repair .. speak to office of fair trading as what people think about private selling you do have rights .. but i would have a good look over the car to make sure it isnt hgf .cos a car over heats dont mean there is troble with the head gasket .as said the engines dont suffer alot with this ,although in the last year 3 have been in to my guys ,but the maya was every where to see hgf ... if the above dont work send the boys round i take it you asked all the questioned you should when buying a car ,ie has it ever had over heating issues ,what fan has it got ,3 speed at 60,000 would need replacing ..belts done . as the price of hgf is quoted at £1500 i would find a garage ha is up to date on prices for such things ,for that sort of money you could belts changed and head gasket new water pump aux belts and a mot ,and still have enough left for a big breakfast sold as seen indicates that all problems have been discussed and the buyer is happy o buy knowing of the problems the car has ..

just done a bit of re search as to rights and such buying from a private seller .. if it was advertised as a excellent car and has this has happened in days then you will have the rights as if bought of a dealer .. check that they aint selling more cars with same number as they will be deemed as a trader,if that is the case they will have to repair or re fund the money .. as i said it is all about the how the car was adverised post the ad up here if it is still to hand ...
