[QUOTE=ukmastiff;548183]Thanks guys , I've had 2 Porsche 944 Turbo's in the last 12 months and one of those had a failed MAF its common on them after 20 plus years.
Since MAF controls the air fuel mix I would have thought the car would go rich on boost if the MAF was duff wouldnt it ?. My car runs and ticks over smoothly it is just underpowered. Gut instinct says it isnt actually defective just underpowered if you see what I mean.

Yes have read that I have a sort after model, being a car enhthusiast I snapped it up and am just preying its no dog

A tuner who specialises in BMW Diesel engines to check it over and possibly tune it was my hope ?

Thanks for the info so far, and Im glad someone likes the car.

Hi UKMastiff,
If the MAF is faulty on this diesel it seems to affect the lower end of the engines performance which starts to improve when the higher rev levels are reached. Rover Ron is an expert on this subject and will add a link to his site which maybe of assistance to you.
Regards,
Telfer.

This is where a forum for specific cars comes in to its own. I have no knowledge re MAF sensors on Diesels, or of 'known' Rover faults.

If someone can tell me how to check if the MAF is at fault ? , I will gladly do what ever I have to do, pesumably replace it before any potential remap ?

Regards

Mas

disconnect the MAF and see if the cars performance alters.
another problem could be the under bonnet fuel pump not supplying fuel at the correct volume which will also account for the lack in power.
leaky injectors and air intake problems could contribute.

I have the 75cdt (116hp) auto with 102k and mine was quite sluggish. Eventually the u/bonnet pump started to expire. After some weeks of giving it a clonk to get it going, I got a replacement tank pump and u/bonnet pump from Jules. It was like getting a new car back. Still aware that I need a rover-ron box to complete the transformation.

Lo Beemer, hopefully our cars will meet up somewhere at some point in the not too distant.

Having driven the car a bit more , I still dont actually believe the MAF or anything else is faulty. You have to keep in mind that the Turbo Diesel auto I was driving was an exceptionally 'sporty one' The volvo D5 02 plate was still a 168BHP car and really amazingly quick for a saloon car never mind a diesel. I think the sudden drop in BHP was a shock to my brain :P

I'm getting used to lower power already and taking this all in to account , I think I will try a tuning box or remap and report back. I might as well, as I find it all interesting being a true car enthusiast even though I am totally bloomin incapable with the spanners which is embarrasing

Cheers

Mas

Hi mas, yes we will surely bump into each other at some stage, I was a bit miffed of my cars power when I first got it having been used to fast cars but the more you drive it the more you become used to it. Regards, Gary
