Smile Clutch.

Hi all, I have a problem with the gear changes on my 02 cdt. The change is very notchy and takes away the pleasure of driving this lovely car. I have been to two clutch centres in Liverpool who both told me the clutch is okay. One said if
I did'nt like the gear change to buy another car. I noticed there was a trace of clutch fluid around the drivers mat but the last expert told me the cmc and the pedal felt fine and said if I changed the cmc I would not find any difference. Could the stiffness and clunkiness be the two gear cables under the battery box?. Is it worth getting at them and greasing them and has anyone done it and found a difference?. Thanks in advance. John.

The fact that you have fluid leakage suggests to me it's a clutch hydraulic problem, try holding it on a fastish tickover & selecting reverse..........if it crunches or wont engage then I would say it's a clutch fault

I tried what you said, I took it up to 2000 revs and tried reverse. It was just the same as when the engine is ticking over. Thanks, John.

I will try to get at the gear cables on Sunday to grease them. Has anyone done this and did it make any difference?.

When I had the clutch done the garage oiled/greased all the cables and linkage. I can literally change gear with a fingertip, it's that much better.

Thanks Mick, if it stops raining on Sunday I will get at my cables and grease them. Has anyone done the cables on a diesel, anything to watch out for?. John.
