Unhappy Steering rack problem

While at Rustmaster yesterday finally managed to get a good look at the steering rack problem highlighted at MOT time - here's the pic

Any thoughts on cause/impact/fix?

Thanks

Colin

Is the leak from the rubber boot or the small pipe?

If its the boot look for splits or a loose clip on the end. If its the pipe it looks like a standard compression type fitting, a quick nip up with a spanner. If it feels too tight already then undo and look if its an olive type fitting that needs replacing.

Thanks both

Downside I now have is that it's covered in waxoyl!

Will change the gaiter and nip up the pipe and see how I get on
