Thanks Greeners
I can only assume that all my fan speeds are working. When the car is started cold no fan is on. I press the aircon button and the fan comes on. (Loud) Now according to the printout and other links this is the LOW speed. (Hecks it's loud for a low speed fan) Switch off aircon and get the car up to 96 degrees according to the IPK and fan comes on (Loud but cannot tell if any louder than just aircon and cold engine). Now this should be the LOW speed again so thats OK. Whilst the figures stated in the printout is > 100 my first fan comes on at 96 so I can only assume the IPK reading is reading 100 as 96 for some reason. With car over 96 degrees and I switch on the aircon fan is still on but I cannot tell if it gets any louder than the above tests. Now according to the printout this is still LOW speed. But according to Keith this should be the Medium speed http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...69&postcount=2 As the low speed is the one that most people have fail and my tests with the Trinary switch managed to get another fan speed I can only assume that all 3 speeds are working. I'll have the bumper off in a few weeks when replacing it so I'll be able to get at the 2 plugs that provide power to the fan. Hopefully I'll know by then what lines to provide power to to properly test this. As stated I don't want to dismantle half the front of the car just to get to the control box. That's Jules's area of expertise.

Just to clarify, the medium speed will only be triggered by the air conditioning if the refrigerant pressure is high. Therefore you should not necessarily expect an increase in fan speed (to medium) when you activate the air con. (with the fan already running). When you take your bumper off, you'll see the fan control box mounted at the top left hand side (nearside) of the fan cowl. But you need to release the cowl to get inside it. The connector beside the battery, which Keith told us about, is probably a better bet. Simon.

There's a tad more to strip down to hinge the Fan Cowling out.
The slam panel has to come off too Hardly worth it just to test a fan speed! Easy with a V6, firstly set Dash diagnostics to option 19 log off ......no 7 (water temp) then let it idle for 15 mins. If temp doesn't rise enough, just drive it slowly up a hill somewhere quiet (suggest 2nd gear). 1st Fan speed should come on at 96 deg. KV6 If the ECT sensor registers engine coolant temperatures of: Between 96°C and 100°C, = Low fan speed Between 102°C and 106°C, = Medium fan speed Between 108°C and 112°C, = High fan speed

Last couple of three speeders I checked fan doesn't come on until 100 is reached but then stays on until temp drops to 96. Rechecked fan off car and all speeds are working.
So as far as I can tell statement: low speed 96 to 100 is correct but not as you would expect; Hope that makes sense

Nope, I've seen an old 1.8 fan as described, in fact still have it in my shed, 450w motor, (not the slimmer 300w) three wires, no resistor fitted . Physically it is same size, shape, depth as kv6 and deisel motors but as said, three wires no resistor. one neg, two lives. Energise either of the relays and fan appears to run same speed ( difficult to tell ) energise both and fan runs faster
