So, seems like a loose connection somewhere - I just need to track it down!
Thanks to all for your helpful pointers.
Hi. I see you are on line. hope you are on here.I have the exact same prob. Been to my local Rover expert and T4 reports intermittant fault in EWS unit. Have one on order. Meanwhile I have found what seems to be a temp solution. Insert key turn to first position (mileage lights up) and do not turn for about 30secs or longer turn to pos 2 wait for glow and engine lights to go out then start. Sounds daft but in the last week this has only failed twice and I think I was to quick with the starter. When I stop engine if I do not remove key it will start straight away, remove key and it's back to square one. Try it. Also

Hello Cousin Dennis,
Mine turned out to be a corroided starter motor connection in the end, now working.
Good luck with yours!
Tony (Dennis).

Glad you sorted it. They checked that on mine but it's had a new starter fitted before I got it so this prob has been there before. Only had the car 4 weeks. Previous owner denies any knowledge. I will put a report when it's done.Cheers, Dennis.
