Default Double DIN security

Does anybody know if there is a cover available which can be used to disguise a double DIN head unit please?

I caught somebody "admiring" my Pioneer the other day. Perfectly innocent on that occasion but got me thinking I'd rather not advertise £1500 worth of HU to those who might be interested.

It's not a "face-off" so can't solve it that way.

There are some devices that you can get from South Africa, one is a flame thrower that just singes the little Mans ankles if they just dare peer into your car.........

I was wondering whether an old Harmony or Symphony might give up it's front fascia to do the job.

Could be worth a go - how would you hold it in place?

Could make it "roll down" from underneath the cd player colour coded "lip" at the top somehow would be my first thought.

Don't know. Hadn't thought that far yet.

Maybe if the Pioneer was set back further into the fascia...?

I don't know if there is much space available?

Maybe the Pioneer is smaller than the 2 double din units that I have fitted, but space is at a premium.

Maybe the false face could be "hung" from hooks under the eyebrow?

Thinking about it, the Pioneer is actually pushed as far in as it will go

I do not envy you that job, I looked at many ways to overcome this and came up with a blank. I found it hard to believe that the Xtrons models myself and trebor and no doubt others have fitted, for less than £300 have face off. Yet a top of the range Pioneer worth that much does not. It is not that they are cheap NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-, I love the XTrons and think it is the Rover 75 & ZT of the double DIN world.

Rover 75 & ZT
XTrons double DIN face off

Nothing to touch them for the price

I do hope you find a way to address your concerns, I could not

I had the same idea that CDTi mentioned. Making a complete false cover by butchering a single din facia, blanking off the bit above the DIN slot, and affixing a cheap DIN face cover. Then have some velcro under the eyebrow to fix it in place. However it would have taken the time I simply do not have. You however, would have to buy another BMW facia though as this is what I believe you have used. I reckon the false face panel CDTi linked to on eBay would fit if the back was filed or ground away to make it wafer thin, this I believe would hook up with velcro, well worth a try.

There is always the generator in the boot and 240V to the doors option.

I liked the dye jets fitted to the dash I saw somewhere, instead of an alarm sounding, the hopefull thieving toe rag would look like my avatar for the next month

There is also the option of fitting carefully aimed tasers to the roof behind the seats, you could do your Raistlin mod and use it as a bait car and taser the first lowlife that stuck thir head through the door.
