Book prices are generally only good for mass produced cars.
The V8s' were not mass produced in that there are not masses of them so any price given has to be taken with a pinch of salt. If every V8 was put on sale tomorrow for 30k and 1 sells then they are worth 30k.

Except they wouldn't be worth £30,000 due to differences in age, mileage and condition...eg. If the 'new' V8 at SMG DID sell for £30,000, everybody elses would still be worth a lot less...

This is one of the two I noticed on sale. But would you rather pay 7k for the black one, or 8k for this lovely Aurora? I would refurbish the wheels on the black one in gunmetal grey or blackish and call it Black Widow

the book price is not for a real V8, traders do not really know what to do with them.
problem is they are trying to buy them for minimum money and then flog them as special car money. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...132#post324132 this for example is a nice car worth every penny If your looking for an everyday point and squirt car wrong car, if your looking for a big comfy mile eater that will go up in price as they are at rock bottom then get one. my fav is the MK1, I think it looks harder /meaner, but then thats me, I also like the wheels on this one |

I find it amazing the low milage on some of the MG Rover V8's on sale these days.
The gold 75 V8 17000 in four years and the ZT in JP53 post 27000 in five years. I think it shows that these cars were either treasured and little used, or just too expensive to run on a daily basis, possibly both.. Dave T |

Because you get a large variation in condition and mileage over a low production run the prices will be all over the shop. (low sample = high core ranges ) I'm never going to sell but I would be mortified if I got a poo price for an 04 immaculate condition garaged 14k mileage with all the fixes installed. The other reason I would not sell is I paid 21k for mine while MGR still had a pulse. That would be 66% depreciation . So with all that poo out of the way, paying £7 - 10k for one of these rare beauties has got to be good value now.

The Aurora one is indeed a mk1 converted to a mk2 for press work... i've been with a friend to look at it and although it has been cared for mechanically (it does have a pulley wobble problem tho!) it is in some need of TLC. The wheels are completely shot and need a refurb, the front bumper almost has as many stone chips as it has paint on it! and needs to be re-sprayed... its not even acceptable... its looks a real mess and there are substantial scratches on the drivers door, passenger wing, on two of the door tops and rear bumper. And as it is Aurora the paint is not cheap... you'll be looking at £500-1000 on the paint alone + cost of spraying/lacquer etc. It will need a real enthusiast with deep pockets to restore what should be a gem of a press/TV car
As for pricing... well as everyone above as said, you can not go by the book prices. The cheapest V8 you'll buy is about 5k and for that you'll get a higher mileage average condition car. 6k-8k will buy you a good one with lower mileage and closer to 10k will buy you a special one... maybe something with low mileage, a monogram car etc. It's worth shopping around and having a look to make sure you get a good one. The Two-Sixties is the best place to be for specialist V8 advice although most of us are also on here too so pick up 260 questions here too. Basically if you want a 260 you are buying it for the long term, not as an investment. Once you've driven one and owned one for a while you'll see why they very rarely come up for sale, because they get into your blood and you never want to sell them! Hope this helps
