Thanks, it arrived this afternoon...I am going to send both master cylinders off to two different companies to see who can come up trumps. seal kits were widely available for all sorts of cars just a few years ago, and some companies still supply them...kits typically cost very little. I am hoping that as with the PCV filters one of the companies will help out...as soon as I have a reply I will post up on here. Cheers Jamie

Older ones were simply B+ and the red light connection.
Like this http://homepage.ntlworld.com/william...aker1/alt2.htm Newer ones have a connection to the ECU which then tells the red light to illuminate. Connector plug is 3 pin, or at least mine is. Similar to BMW alternators, which is not surprising really. The excitation might also be coming by the ECU or a sub module. Bit like the Ford Focus Smart charging, which particularly like Lead silver calcium batteries. http://www.petercoopercarrepairs.co....t_charging.htm Be interesting if there's a service kit. Be more interesting if the fault can be elsewhere....Like the ECU....ooooh

See the smart charge comment about jump starting.
Funnily enough, mine is in semi- storage and if the battery goes too low, I charge from a running jump battery for 15 minutes, then disconnect the leads and start normally. Looks like I might be doing the right thing for the wrong reasons... I wonder if disconnecting the 3 pin plug would revert the alternator to standard operation? Then again, I'm not sure the R75 uses smart charging anyway, just looks suspiciously like it.
