Default Purchasing a Digital TV unit

I hope to add a DVT now I have a BM24 that works. Old analogue unit is broken as it was submersed in water!

Has anyone attempted this yet with a cheaper alternative such as?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/portable-car-d...1%7C240%3A1318

A few questions:
Will this connect to a HighLine head unit easily?
Can one mount it in boot and control it from within the vehicle?
How does audio output get connected (is this via the head unit also)? I don't mind using the AV channel!
What's the reception like?
Where does the aerial sit?
How is it powered?
What else does one need to know when connecting a unit such as this?

John, link to eBay no longer works:

Thanks,

Hi Scarbs,
Yes you can get aftermarket items to work with the standard Hi line set up, you will need an A/V in lead that intercepts the white plug that goes into TV Tuner (these are about £35). You control the new unit via remote control (pointed at an infra red eye you'd have to run from the boot). The DVB box connects to the A/V in lead by RCA's. The picture and sound will then come through as normal on the TV's AV channel. The DVB units will require new 'stick-on' type aerials to be fitted and normally there are two of them on the good tuners, i'd suggest one in the front screen and one on the rear screen for the best diversity. The reception isn't fantastic, but then the BMW Hybrid unit isn't spectacular in the saloons either. Power supply is just like adding an aftermarket DVD player, you just need to pick up a 12v switched feed, 12v constant and ground - all available from the main loom to the BM24/54. As John says, the DVB signal isn't at full strength yet, so no one knows how good its going to get unit the full switchover happens.

I'm currently working with one of my old suppliers to offer some aftermarket DVB tuner kits ready for the 75/ZT. They've currently got a standard twin diversity tuner (2 antennas) that is a pretty good unit (not the cheapest, but one of the better ones) and the second which will be launching in April, should be the Rolls Royce of DVB Tuners, as its a Quad diversity unit (requiring four antenna's) this will allow the best possible picture. I would suggest two antenna in the front screen (one horizontal, one vertical) and the other two in the same configuration in the rear screen. The only problem with this tuner will be the price, it will be about £500, but should be better than the BMW unit and will offer Digital radio too.

Once i get these units tested i'll let you all know my findings.

Thanks for your help guys. Really useful info. The deluxe version sounds a bit pricey for me at the moment.

I like the sound of the last one though. I'll request connection info from the seller.

Might this twin tuner be suitable?

Might have to get one of those to run some tests.
Haven't tried it to date but it does sound suitable.

Default Single tuner with multiple aerials

To keep some of the costs down is it possible to connect multiple aerials to a single unit DVT/DVB? This would need to be done to ensure the best possible reception of course.
