Default Lubricating sunroof

The sunroof won't slide shut. It meets that black plastic U-shaped thingy at the front and reverses course. I have to hold the black plastic U-shaped thingy down and watch my fingers so it slides shut.

I guess it needs lubrication, but what with and where?

Ta.

Mine frequently closes nearly shut and then reverses but when I press it to close a second time it works ok. It's done it for years. If I lock the car with the key using 'lazy locking' it closes without a problem every time. I've put it down to an electrical gremlin and live with it.

That's the factory default setting and exactly how it's supposed to work. If you want, the operation can be changed to one open/touch close with TOAF or T4.

Most issues with the sunroof are a result of the sunscreen not sliding freely. I repaired the broken sliders with a BMW repair kit (freely available online). Put lithium grease on the sunroof trolley tracks and into the channels for the sunscreen sliders. Now operates smoothly but now I always open the screen manually before operating the sunroof and recommend others do the same.

You've lost me there Terry! Are you claiming that when closing, the sunroof is supposed to reverse direction when almost shut? Or are you referring to lazy locking?

It's my understanding that the sunroof should only automatically reverse direction if it encounters resistance to closure. Like Rovertone's car, mine does it now and again. Mine also sometimes fails to slide open unless I first tilt it! To my thinking, this suggests a fault with the electronic control system but I too live with it.

My sunroof tilts and opens just fine but also reverses when using the "auto-close" function. I have the hold the switch in the close position to get it to fully close. It's rare that I open the sunroof, so have also chosen to just live with it! Maybe one day I'll investigate it further.
