Default Poorly ZT - urgent help/advice needed

Hi Guys I posted yesterday in the technical forum, but am also posting here.
I really need your help/advice now.

Our daily (a ZT190) overheated last Thursday and went to local garage.
They replaced the thermostat sensor but no change -the engine temperature is all over the place.

They now tell me the next stage would be strip out and clean the radiator, hoses etc. Essentially a whole days labour at over £400!
Car is worth maybe £500-£1000 in working condition (which currently it is not)

What to do?

I don't want to sell it as it (not get much anyway)
But £400 to not fix it, just explore the problem further doesn't feel sensible choice. We need a daily car, but think we're going to struggle to finance a bill of that size (and no guarantee that more doesn't need to be spent to fix it)

Can anyone help?

I am located in the York/Leeds area

Many thanks

Andrew

Andrew,

I answered your earlier thread on this subject this morning. I would retrieve your car from the local garage as soon as possible. A proper diagnosis is needed before spending large amounts of money. That's the next stage.

By the way, the retail value of the car has nothing to do with necessary maintenance and repair bills. No-one recovers that expenditure. What is more to the point is how much would you have to spend to replace the Rover with a vehicle of equivalent quality.

I look forward to your response to my post in your initial thread. It's best to keep all information in one place for clarity.

Simon

I'm in Lincolnshire and will gladly have a look for you but flushing it is not going to cure it, I would suspect it might only be the oil cooler which I can easily test

Andrew,

As Dave says, a blocked oil cooler is one cause of overheating but that would suggest that someone has added a sealing product such as K-Seal. Can you enlighten us on this possibility please?

At present driving to Lincolnshire would bring a high risk of breaking down. If you look at my reply to your original thread, that will get us closer to a diagnosis.

Default Poorly zt

Simon

I hope to get the car back tomorrow so will do some investigation as you suggested.
No-one (to my knowledge) has used any sealant product on the system
