Default Brake fluid level switch - how to replace

Hello,

I’m trying to get to the brake fluid level switch to test it. There appears to be an access panel in front of the brake servo. I’ve removed the six screws with great difficulty. The panels is free but for whatever reason won’t lift out. The connector to the switch seems to be held in position by a wire clip. If I could remove the clip, I could at least unplug and short the pins to see if my brake issue clears.

Has anyone ever replaced a switch on a V6 model? Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.

Irs a complete pain to remove, have you looked at the handbrake switch instead as this will throw up the same warning light?

If it's anything like other connectors Terry, squeeze the wire clip towards the connector body to release.

Were all cars fitted with the fluid level switch for the master cylinders ? My car is auto, but i dont recall seeing any switch plug or wiring visible ... unless i need to go to spec savers ..

I thought the same Stefan after reading this thread. Reading the manual it's rather a clever magnetic device which I believe is mounted lower down on the reservoir, is that correct Terry?

Yes, it’s a reed relay switch that is mounted lower on the reservoir. I can see it and touch it but it’s proving almost impossible to remove due to lack of space. It is available as a spare part so I presume they are known to fail. I’ll persevere until I get it out but knowing my luck, it will test as ok!

Thats very interesting to know and i will check mine is the same when i get a chance. So is this warning lamp incorporated into all IPK units,or just on the connie models etc. I do have the upgraded IPK fitted by philt4 years ago,so i presume it would work. Thankfully i have never seen it in operation, even on start up ignition on,warning lamps , or would it have been T4 initiated after my upgrade to the high line IPK ?

Thinking further about this,i suppose it comes under the brake warning lamp if actuated. ... hence the thread !!

So, after much struggling, I managed to get the brake fluid switch out. Unfortunately though, it tested as ok. So the fluid switch and handbrake switches are both ok. I’ve had the ABS Pump replaced so it must now be the ABS pump connector as I don’t think it can be anything else unless anyone knows otherwise?
