Entire audio system dead
Hi all, I'm having trouble with the audio system in my 2002 Rover 75 tourer, and I'd really appreciate it anyone could help me, especially as we're taking the car to France this coming Friday!
It's a High Line sat nav system, but I've had an Xtrons head unit fitted for the last few months. The other day, the Xtrons randomly stopped working normally and after some detective work found that it would switch on if the sidelights or headlights were turned on, but even then it'd make a loud buzzing noise. I decided to fit the original High Line system back in (thinking the Xtrons head unit was broken), but similarly it will not power up (even with the lights on). Also the Sat Nav disc unit in the rear won't power up. The boot is dry as a bone. I've checked the fuses and they all seem fine. Has anyone else had an issue like this? Many thanks in advance, Andrew

Might be a long shot, but have a look at your light switch module. They can sometimes get wet and short out. When they do they can cause everything from strange faults to fires.

I’ve had problems with a Sony aftermarket unit I fitted a few years ago. I found disconnecting the SWC plug allowed it to behave normally, controlled from the DIN unit. This of course means no SWC, but that’s ok whilst I source a new interface to try.

This is what's really weird. The multi point socket is producing voltage according to my multimeter.
I have no other electrical issues - all the lights, switches etc work perfectly. It's purely the radio system including the sat nav that don't work.

Doh!
I double checked the fuses as I just couldn't understand what was wrong. It dawned on me that I checked the wrong 15 amp fuse After realising my error, I pulled out the 15 amp fuse for the amplifier, and low and behold, a blown fuse! Swapped it with the horn fuse, fitted the stereo back and it all began working again!

Funnily enough, I've just done the same! I had a faulty connector on the cable at the radio box in the spare wheel well, so I spliced a new plug on. Nothing worked afterwards, and I had checked the wrong fuse.

I told Mrs Costa that my audio system was dead - didn't stop her though.
