EU car emissions

Just wondering what effects the introduction of EU car emission standards had on you guys over there.
Im in Australia and the current federal labour govt is trying to introduce emission
controls here for the first time and guessing they will use EU standards.
This is their attempt to “encourage” people to buy electric cars- which are totally not fit for purpose here with large distances between towns.
Alot over here drive diesel suv (toyota, jeep etc) so will be interested how people
will tow caravans etc.
How do you guys tow 22ft caravans ??
