Waze warnings is perfectly legal here: French government put radar controls on the so called "dangerous spots" to prevent accidents & casualties. Hence the app is warning you about dangerous spots. As simple as that.
Mind that Waze is mainly made by users to help each others and there's an orange button that gives you the opportunity to warn other people.

I've put it in my new Erisin Android (same with your phone) and that's it.
Besides it can show you the best way from A to B.
Test it: you'll be soon unable to drive without...
How easy is it to add Waze to the Erisin?

I tried using the navigation on my Erisin for the first time last week, but I wasn't very impressed with it.

Does it need an internet connection when driving?

In my Erisin it was very easy for already offered (it's free BTW). But easy to download with an internet connection.
In France I find it very accurate and precise. When I'm back home it tells me that I'm arrived at destination just 5 meters before the gate! Never ever TomTom was so precise: with the latter I was generally lost 300m at least around my destination!
Yes you should have an internet connection to make it work. I've got a small box connected to the Erisin with a internet mini card in it. Rather cheap with my Orange subscription, around 5€ a month for a big quantity of data. But you may alternatively use your cellular phone as a gateway so that Erisin will use your phone to get an internet connection and that's it.
And as Erisin is able to split the screen, I've got Waze on one part and Torque monitoring the ECU on the other. And icing on the cake, my huge musical playlist in the background.

I quite agree: camera detectors are banned in Europe.
But that wasn't the point made by the OP...
The question was about TomTom or anything else allowing any respectful driver in France not to be extorted by radars which were less intended to save lives than to put people at ransom... Mind that here there's no limit of error for the driver just a limit of error for the device and that it is 5km only under 100km/h or 5% over, which is rather peanuts when you are controlling your speed by foot, even you can rely on speedo and the like. Far more severe than in the UK...
Besides you'll never find any "SLOW" written on the road as in the UK, but you're relentlessly told up to what speed limit you're compelled to drive and the limit may change several times in 1km! Madness... Sometimes when I'm using TomTom (on my 214 cabby) which is desperately inaccurate (wrong because local councils may change the previous limit at any moment!) and despite signs proliferation which are a burden for tax payers I don't know at what speed I could be fined hence I ask my better half's her advice... Hence WAZE (which is informed in real time by a large community) is a very relief because it's always right on the speed to respect.
And it's free! Bargain!
