Steering Wheel Controls

My recently acquired and gorgeous Connoisseur is fitted with the VDO CD 413X, however the wheel mounted controls do nothing. Would appreciate any ideas, experience or polite suggestions!!

There is a video on you tube that covers this area but I cannot for the life of me find it. If I do I will post the link.
