I absolutely agree with mbev's sentiment, but it's already too late - the issue is already deeply divisive and will become worse. Brexit has been a perfect dress rehearsal for what is to come: those backing the status quo will complacently assume they will win and run an entirely inept campaign, then at the last minute realize they are heading for defeat and start making threats which will alienate many of the undecided. Meanwhile those pushing for change will come out with all sorts of unachievable fantasies about how good life will be outside, blame all the country's ills on the larger entity which they want to escape, and ignore the numerous valid questions about the practicalities of how it will (or, rather, won't) work. Given the perceived betrayal of No voters on the EU issue and general discontent with issues which are wrongly attributed to the Union, the Yes camp will attract much greater support this time and romp home to victory - which will be the cue for years (decades?) of acrimony and wrangling over all the resulting issues which no one wanted to discuss properly before the vote because the results would have been unpalatable. |

Boris embarrassed the EU with his reaction to Ukraine which forced them to do something positive. |

Wonder how long it would be ,if scotland were to reach independence status, that the lady Nicola , would be inclined to ask for a referendum for a scottish monarchy . I think perhaps she has always fancied this in her dreams of dreams. Of course her bonny prince husband would have to be involved. im sure that this dynamic duo would be the answer to all things bad about the english rule. keeping the scots down...

You presume quite wrongly! My posts of that time are still available on here! Anyway, the EU collectively and in accordance with their rules voted en masse and did everything they possibly could, by a variety of dodgy means, to sink that particular ship with all hands! That was possibly the biggest referendum there has ever been considering the numbers involved, together with the EU's visceral hatred on show. Not for the people in the UK, rather the brass neck of the UK trying to determine its own future - arrived at by yet another referendum that was decisive. To quote the EU as a comparator and to sneer at earlier events is neither relevant nor helpful! On point: What affects Scotland has much the same effect on rUK in this cause. Why would we want to leave the outcome, that affects us all, to a tiny minority of what is in reality an untrustworthy cabal of opportunistic zealots in search of a perceived immortality? Patriotism is a proud flag in a modern age but, certainly in this case, a false one.
