I almost lost the end of a finger due to "support" struts that didn't! I still have the scars to prove it! Those bonnet edges are lethal when used as a guillotine!

Solved the problem by buying a little T-shaped gadget on ebay for £10. It slots onto the lower part of the extended strut, and, once hand tightened, makes the bonnet completely secure in seconds. Working under the bonnet the other day, a hurricane came along, and my head remained perfectly intact! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOCKING-C...-127635-2958-0

I use exactly the same but in blue. They are a god send on our cars if your a driveway mechanic.

Handy if you're frequently working on different cars, but if it's your own car just buy new struts.
