Any way to disable annoying auto gear change on hill descent
Hi - is there anyway to turn off, or reduce the amount of engine braking my car thinks I need when descending hills?

Don't think so, I tend to tap the throttle slightly to increase the revs,
but not enough to re-engage the auto box, to fool it, may have to do it several times on a long hill descent.

John,
Your profile says that you don't have a car. Can you update it please? As you're in Australia I will assume for now that you have a 2.5 litre KV6. If that's the case then you should check all engine tuning parameters. If you have never cleared the breather pinhole in each cam cover then do that as a priority. Automatic transmissions are very susceptible to engine tune often leading to incorrect diagnosis that the gearbox is faulty. In any case, in my experience the downchange during hill descent is very subtle. I wish mine would respond more vigorously. Simon

I understand that if you hold the brake (even lightly) on for 2 seconds, the gearbox changes down. (Read it somewhere?)

Just about to say that the auto box’s on our 75/ZTs Are programmed that way. As trikey said, don’t brake, it will then take it longer to change down. As soon as you brake, it knows (the auto box) that you require braking from the engine, or so it thinks. I don’t know if modern box’s do the same now, but they hadn’t used to.

Well even my 20 years old auto gearbox looks working fine, in case downhill is a bit steep I'm downgrading to gear 4, 3 or even 2 (in corners) to avoid taking too much speed or to save my brakes - unless I'm closely followed by a chap because till you don't use the brake pedal your stop lights are turned off. I reckon it's good fun at least from my point of view.
