AGV clooging things up

I have had various slowdown and clogging problems with a few vista machines at home and work over the last few weeks. Web browsing has been slow, program start up has been "stuttered" and even the rental software we use has been very slow reading server data and swapping between jobs. Outlook has also been struggling with incoming emails.

All machines are nice and fast duel cores with 3 gig RAM in most cases. Just switched off a few elements of AGV and all problems seem to be solved.

Just wondering if a recent update has caused these problems as I haven't had any problems in the past and it has suddenly occurred on multiple machines.

Anybody else had a similar experience?

Unfortunately a lot of the "domestic" AV programs are becoming very resource hungry.
What with Live EMail Scans and Complete Hard Drive monitoring this is one of the side effects.
Other than turning off un-required facilities the only decent answer is a Commercial AV Program but expensive.
Having Dual Core, Dual Core 2 or Quad Core makes no difference as they are all designed just for single core at time of writing.

No problems with AVG free ver 8.0.176 and vista on home machine , and all program bits working ..
