Ford Europe announces Job losses
Carmaker Ford has announced plans for a major shake-up of its operations in the UK and mainland Europe.
It is expected to lead to thousands of job losses across Europe, including the UK, although cuts at its UK factories are not thought to be imminent. But Ford Europe boss Steven Armstrong said should the UK leave the EU without a negotiated deal, a further review of UK operations would take place. |

Ford didn't attend the Geneva motor show this year either, they also didn't attend the 2018 Paris motor show last year. They must be skint.
I feel sorry for those who are losing their jobs. |

Yes indeed - UK job losses to be 20% My understanding is the European Arm of Ford losing (big) money. Hard to understand when the Fiesta and Focus models are big sellers? |

I guess the margins on the cars must be incredibly tight because of Ford's massive overheads and aggressive discounting.

With the onset of banning internal combustion engines Ford has just invested $500million in Rivian to use their BEV skateboard battery platform to put their bodies on.
They were in talks with VW to use their MEB skateboard platform too. All the big auto makers have pitched tents in China and are making numerous models there in partnership with the big Chinese manufacturers, It looks like it's the only place they well be profitable making vehicles especially BEV's. I read BMW are building factories in Thailand to build their EV's which seems to be the new China as well as India nowadays. Doesn't bode well for European manufacturers are more than half will be redundant within the next decade

I've been reading quite a few articles lately on what will happen to all the motor manufacturers after the 2021 CO2 fuel efficiency rules come into place & over the following decade.
The choice of BEV models that will be available for the mass market motorist (i.e. Me) isn't looking good at all unless you have very deep pockets. This article explains it perfectly on what to expect for new car buyers after 2021. https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwin...t#299559ad111e

They'll no doubt tweek the rules and reality will enter. But then these rules are more about bringing the big stick than anything else.
EV are out of the bag and here to stay. We can't ignore them, how best do we deal with them in increasing numbers. |

Looks like it wont only be the auto workers out of a job before much longer either!
Check out this new Volvo autonomous truck. the first pilot assignment of the all-electric, autonomous Vera hauler, which transports goods from a logistics centre to a port terminal in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Looks like a major organisation, they need the money to invest in EVs. They've been left behind. |
