Default Tesco and LPG pumps

Thank you for your email. I am very sorry that you are unable to buy LPG from many of our fiel fillings stations. I am sorry for the disappointment that has been caused.

The Government has increased the Duty on this grade in recognition that the environmental benefits are no longer that great compared to modern cleaner fuels and cleaner engines. The Governments strategy is to increase the use of bio fuels - bio diesel and bio ethanol and as such all retailers will be required to sell a proportion of biofuels by 2008.

Tesco is the leading retailer in the UK in terms of bio fuels retailing, selling both bio diesel and petrol containing bio ethanol in approximately 50% of our sites. We have not introduced any new LPG pumps at any PFS and currently have no plans to introduce anymore.

I can remember back in the early 80's my father was a service manager for Rumbelows (remember them!!), some of his engineers cars had dual fuel, petrol and LPG, so nothing is really new, I think there was a push on for it then, but like now after a short time the cycle continues and it goes out of fashion. I think this normally coincides with the govt deciding they want to start taxing it more as more people use it!!!!!
