Some people would recommend a 13mm crows foot for this job.

Hi Andy.
The tool to help you now that the bolt is rounded off will be a Irwin bolt grip 13mm, if you get stuck I am about all weekend, and being as you are not to far away if you need help drop me a PM or text, I also think I have a couple of the bolts in one of the tins in the shed.

Cheers mate.

I'm "Up North" this weekend but with all the suggestions I'll see how I get on getting it off. This is the tourer you'll see at the nano - with that quite long shopping list .

Thanks.

Andy

Folks - you're brilliant.

I sense a trip to Toolstation &/or some internet shopping coming on.

Hopefully she'll be all sorted very soon.

Thanks.

Andy.

Beat me to it Steve, I was going to suggest thay. Colin used them on my 75 caliper bolts, last time he changed the discs and pads for me

1/2" ring spanner fits a rusty caliper bolt a treat

And before putting any spanners on it give the bolt head a good few clumps with a drift and lump hammer. :

An update.

She's off. All hail Teng 6 point sockets .

After all your suggestions I went out and got a 1/4" drive Teng socket as it's quite shallow and would fit with a T bar. Also bought a set of Irwin extractors.

A few attempts at giving the bolt a clout - not the easiest place to get to and on went the socket, T bar and a cissy tube extension.

Shocked the bar with a few thumps from the hammer and the offending bolt began to give. The socket stayed beautifully in place and didn't slip .

And, success. .

In fact the caliper is now back on having had a "discussion" with my rewinding tool and is now all free and sliding nicely.

The handbrake needs attention, which is planned for the nano, as some muppet had just wound the adjuster nut down to the point where I was only just able to back it off with a deep 1/2" drive socket as my smaller ones weren't deep enough and I was almost at the point of trying to find a box spanner . A bit of a bodge with some pipe as a spacer will have to do until next week .

Cheers all.

Andy.

PS This is on my tourer. I think the Damson saloon may be even more of a nuisance as she split a 1/2" drive socket trying to undo the wheel bolts. Sitting outside for 2 years hasn't been kind!

Irwin extractors have removed a few stubborn bolts for me over the years, they are well worth having.
