Second hand is a lottery, they may look ok, but can often be weakened by internal corrosion.

I recently had a set shot blasted, then I treated them inside and out with phosphoric acid, before painting first with a zinc based anti rust primer, then five coats of chassis black paint, before finally treating them with cavity wax.

There were a fair few hours work that went into the job, but they should see out the car they were fitted to.

The new versions differ slightly in appearance, but will fit with a little care, but they definitely need better corrosion protection than standard.
