Just been doing a little research for a friend about early Vulcan flights and managed to find Roly Falks infamous debut at Farnborough, this would have been a sight.P.

Ahh Delta Golf. Somewhere at Brooklands (probably in the "nut house") is a flight certificate with a lot of signatures on it, Some English, Some French. My signature is on there

Mine is inside elevon 4R that I did a huge repair to in my workshops days at B.A.! As an aside Willy Walsh was presented with a 50,000 signature petition this week to get her back in the air...more chance of a cruise on the Titanic I think.P.

Yes agreed Podge. I wonder what condition the airframes are in now after 5 years out of use?

Let alone the engines and the hydraulics.

The cost to get one in the air (most likely Alpha Foxtrot I would guess) would be astronomical now.

If one is made airworthy, I suspect it would be an ex AF one.

A no goer really, we put a "new" olympus in Fox 3 weeks before the final flight. As for the airframes, if standing an airframe down in our climate, you have to carry out a corrosion protection programme or get them out to the desert in the U.S. and mothball them. The engine and gearbox filters will be solid now, hydraulics shot( the one in Toulose has its pumps run to keep it wet), relays will be jammed etc. etc.Bravo at LHR looks o.k. from the outside but totally stripped inside...I and a few others look after her.
A great pity they were stood down so soon, we all still miss them, working the S.S.T. Fleet was like an airline within an airline, without doubt the best working days of my life to date P.

We were talking about "The Whispering Giant" at work to-day,I remember flying on one in the Sixties and a tremedous sight at night on engine start, a large flame out of the Proteus engines on light up.A beautiful plane and what a noise flying over late at night!P.
