That comparison doesn't work, the floor on the V8 is different to other models. The spacer (within reason) idea is a better option.

The last resort to be able to keep the cross brace would be to have the exhaust maker/installer heat and "oval" the pipe a bit at the contact spot. That shouldn't hurt the flow enough to measure or feel.

Flipped it last night and has been fine this morning on way in to work and round town so think its solved it! Thanks for everyones advice

I had a similar problem on my V6 as the result of fitting a replacement rear box which sat slightly differently to the original. Solved it with a bit of surgery on the rear hooks so the box sat a bit higher and pulled the rest of the system up with it.
