Default Engine cutting out

First chance I have had to look at my car since friday, started car up on my driveway and also had the fbh running to get it to temperature, ran for an hour at normal temperature without cutting out, afraid to drive anywhere in case it cuts out in heavy traffic.plenums are dry 3/4 tank of fuel,if I were to send the ecu to one of our gurus, would they be able to to tell what is the problem or has it to be tested insitu.....thanks Tom.

The ECM should ideally be tested insitu Tom, however it is possible to soak test the ECM in isolation to the car.

Fault codes such as low fuel pressure would be logged, however that isn't much to go on if the car the ECM is coded to for the purposes of test has no issues.

It is very unusual for a single pump system to fail, so much so I have never experienced this ever, which leaves me with the question why the pump was changed originally?

Often garages misdiagnose a pump fault, when in reality it is an ECM issue, my dad's tourer was one such case, my own ZT another.

But why was it changed originally? I've never ever experienced a failed single system pump, and that includes a car which had covered almost 600,000 miles

My advise is to drive the car, and if it cuts out again, check to see if the oil pressure warning lamp is illuminated, or if the fuel pump relay in the passenger compartment fusebox is chattering
