My first car - in 1964 - was a 1937 Morris 8 Tourer given to me as an MoT failure, because the front (cart) spring shackles were very worn, making the steering somewhat "vague"...........
No spares were available, so the solution was to dismantle them, insert a washer or two, NO grease, and tighten the things up as much as I could. Very little front suspension, but also very little play. Within limits, anyway, as it passed! Couldn't happen now, thank goodness. malcolm

I had an Austin A40 and driving on the beach one day (don't ask) I broke the nearside rear leaf spring
I couldn't afford another spring so jammed a piece of wood shaped like a wedge between the broken leaf and the next good leaf It worked ok so covered the wood with a mixture of dirt and oil and sold it to a bloke at work for cash which was £30 for the deposit on a Ford Anglia super in yellow! |

motoring memorys
Bit older than all of you !!
My first car bought it,taxed it,insured it,filled it with petrol and had change out of £25. To put it in perspective thecar was 30 years old when i bought it a 1934 morris minor 2 seat rag top and cost me £6.50,tax you could tax it quaterly ie 3 moths at a time, and petrol was the equivelent to 10p agallon and for you who dont know what a gallon is it equates to 2.5 p a litre. Oh Happy days :lol:

Reminds me I had a Mk1 Lotus Cortina once, that pulled the birds and many times i clonked my head on the roll cage when getting to know them better. Happy Days can I get a Tardis? |
