Default BMW 16:9 monitor model?

I am getting nervous ticks whenever I see photos of other members Rover 75's with the B'mer 16:9 monitor.
As others have noted, there seem to be an abundance of these units on eBay at the moment. However, I am not sure which model I can use with my Mk3 nav and TV.
Does anybody have input for that?
I see all sorts of refernces to E46, E39, X models and 5 series.
Pretty lost, as I don't want to end up with the wrong version.

You want the one from the E46 Spook.
To get a Wide screen "Picture" you may well also have to upgrade your TV tuner as only the later ones had 16:9, the 4:3 will still work of course.
You well may have to "File" a little bit off to fit but it goes in there great. (Think Keith posted details, He will be along shortly.)
Best then to start looking at BMW MK4 DVD and you will then want to go to BM24/54 Radio then Digital TV, then............

Ken, who he?

Any E46 one will do
Models with a Casette behind the screen will work in the standard car
Later Models with CD or MiniDisk need a BM54 radio for the CD or Minidisk to be recognised.

All will require a 16:9 version of the TV tuner for anything to work in Widescreen.

BMW plastic and metal side lugs need to be chopped off (after you know it works) top mounting points may need thinning down to fit.

the X5 and E39 units electrically are the same but the screen, mountings and back of the box are different never had my hands on one to see if the might fit in the hole

Hi Keith, dim question I know, but how do I know if my TV tuner will output in widescreen (without buying a widescreen monitor!)

Just upgraded to the Mk4 nav and it would be great with a 16:9 display as well!

Keith, I know the X5 screen does not fit, sold on, but an expensive mistake. It appears different size on back (to long) and fittings just dont work hacksaw/file/hammer excepted.

Some of the last 2005 cars could do both. Go into the normal TV menu and see if you have a display option menu if not then it is almost certainly fixed at 4:3

Extract from my post....
"16:9 Tv Tuner may have not have been required.
The 4:3, 16:9 display option was not shown on any menu until the 16:9 monitor was fitted.
.... Had seen on other threads that the option would be shown on 4:3 monitor if the TV tuner was capable.... not true in my case. "
