Default Power steering leak

How common is it for the power steering hose to leak at this point? I took the car in to have the CV joint changed and they informed me that the power steering hose was leaking. There was no leak prior. (I'm always checking the V to keep an eye on the new thermostat)

I'm very suspicious as it doesn't seem like a hose that would be prone to leaking.

Cheers

Mine was losing PAS fluid and looked like it was the rubber pipe that goes into the rack, can be seen behind the base of the steering column. Topped the fluid up but still leaking.
Car now in the workshop, at MJS, and they have found that the rack itself that has failed, where that pipe joins. This rack was only fitted 2 years ago after the car failed it's MOT, few other issues as well.

MJS have chased up the suppliers who have agreed to supply a new rack at reduced price, and they want the old rack back to find out why it failed.

I've been told that the PAS system needs to be flushed in case any dirt or debris have found there way into the pump.

I hope yours is a much easier fix.

Ouch! Power steering rack would be a nightmare!

Thankfully in my scenario its just a cut on the circled PS hose. Unfortunately this part isn't in stock anywhere and has to be made by a specialist. (Rimmers etc)
