I'm guessing you have a Belkin Router? Most other brands have a network key as standard, IIRC Belkin don't. The download may have got some drivers/new drivers for the wireless LAN, so your online now - which is the main thing! If your using an 'Open' network, you really need to secure it. You only need some passing tourag to use your connection to visit some dodgy site, and your up the creek without a paddle!

XP SP2 have a security update. Prior to the patch XP only recognised WEP and not PSK passwords (I think).
Passwords are annoying. Some adapters don't have all security options. Also in the past I've had problems where one adapter doesn't work with WPA so had to set up WEP on the router, both computer work fine with that (for now anyway). Pain in the bottom! I shouldn't start up about the every 60 second lag spike with XP & Vista built in WZC/WLAN! Not good for us who like to game on the net! An issue microsoft has never overcome.

My Router is sceure by way of password so all safe and sound, it appears SP2 has solved my problem. There is somebody close to me who operates an unsecure network, even jumped on it once just to see if I could

Machines and Programs from last 18 Months have generally been found to be fine.
But there is a List of Programs that won't run or run properly. I'll dig them out and post them up. |
