Thanks. I think I missed a trick though. Should have taken a photo of the set much like the last pic, but with my car just parked up outside one of the houses. i.e a photo of the set with my car in, rather than a photo of my car with the set in, if that makes sense.

Does seems shame, but it's inevitable really. When it was a working MOD site, they often leased out their test track for film work. Since MOD moved off site, filming has really taken off due to the amount, and size, of the various hangers, workshops etc. It's now branded as Longcross Studios and they do an enormous amount of filming there. There are sets for the latest Starwars film, as well as James Bond and many others, so no doubt something equally impressive will be built in its place.

I met my wife whilst working there, she worked in the Climatic Laboratories. They were able to replicate any climate and altitude within the building for testing military vehicles. After it closed down, they filmed the 2nd (or poss 3rd) series of Primeval on site and we got a real kick from seeing wifeys workplace overrun by dinosaurs!

It really is a fascinating process. Way back in the late '70's, the filmed the opening scenes for Superman II on Chobham Common, just opposite the MOD site. They built an entire small American town on the common, complete with roads, houses, bars etc. and we were able to explore the place whenever filming wasn't taking place. Once they had finished, you would never have known it had been there.

Seriously brilliant and still not jealous.
Typical of me, late as usual!

It was. Me and a couple of mates took some "holiday" photos there, trying to make out we were in America. Sadly, the camera was manual focus only, and we managed to stuff up each and every shot.

I went back a day or so later while filming was in progress, and managed to do a (slightly) better job:

The chap nearest the camera is Terrance Stamp, though you'd never know it from the quality photography!

That is amazing Cliff I am a huge Superman fan, I would had loved to have been there and seen all that going on.

I Never knew it was filmed at Chobham Common, I wonder why that location was chosen ? That is something to tell my father when I see him next, he never knew either.

Great pictures Cliff

I'll have show them to my good lady as Call The Midwife was her favourite series.

Thanks Jim. A few other pics taken on my 'phone last year when we first stumbled across the set:

The "brick" bridge in the last couple of photos is most impressive. Even right up close it looks real until you touch it.
