They were just used, abused then taken to the scrapyard without a second thought for saving them.

Equally, we now have lots of magazines, owners clubs, forums and the internet to help provide information and parts to keep our cars on the road.

As the youngest 75/ZT is now 11 years old, yet there are lots still driving around, I tend to think it'll actually be a good few years before we see any real improvement in prices due to rarity.
Whilst the bodies tend not to rot, the underside components do, as a lot of relatively modern cars do - I work near a scrap metal processing plant, and the number of shiny solid less than 10 year old cars is shocking. But another killer of 'modern' cars is electronics. In the same way that rust killed a lot of 60s and 70s cars before their 10th birthday, people kill them due to their apparent complexity.

I dont think we have reach the point where our cars will rise. There are still too many running well as daily cheap 'bangers' at the moment. But because of the subframe/upper rear arm rust issues, and possible ECU flooding on ignorant owners, I dont think it will be long til they do start to genuinely turn around.

Beyond that, though perhaps 10-12 years from now, it will be the cloth seat models advertised as 'fitted with the extremely rare cloth seats'

This is true, but I'll be looking for steel wheels & plastic trims

Probably the time to buy that low mileage one owner car if you have the cash and space and use it sparingly.

The V8's are already appreciating, only 5 years ago a friend who owns a garage took a 75 V8 in part exchange and sent it straight to the auction. He was saying recently he wished he had put it in the shed around the back with some other cars he has saved over the years. The shed around the back is his retirement fund as he calls it.

I very much doubt that. For a high days & holidays car, petrol-powered refinement is the name of the game. And apart from it's industrial associations, diesel will start getting very expensive if the green lobby get their way.
