![]() Belts are made to survive heavy work and are surprisingly tough. Had mine done 4 weeks ago at Lates600 (thank you gents, an enjoyable interlude during which I learned a lot).
However, the tensioners are where the trouble can come. My belts were indistinguishable from new but I, as a non-mechanic, wouldn't be able to tell the difference. But I could tell the difference on the tensioner. It was leaking grease through a seal and would eventually run dry and let go. The car has done 50,00 miles since 2005 and every mile has been gentle with regular servicing. With a blown engine it would be worth scrap and I would have to start again from scratch so the cost is well, what it is! The peace of mind however is priceless.
